Sound
So for those musicians out there, I'm sure you've all heard about color, shape, feel, (etc.) any physical characteristics of sound. My teacher always told me to play my songs with "color". I don't think I ever got that, and I don't know that I fully understand it now. But I'm slowly catching on to the idea. When she first told me that, I took it more of "use more dynamics and articulation" which I guess is part of it. But now I look at it as the emotions and the sounds that you can produce with the music by all different techniques.
I never knew a musical instrument could be so detailed, and I can see why people spend their schooling and even life careers trying to master it. There are millions of things that effect the sound: The way you move your wrist, how high you lift your fingers, how far you press the pedal, how long you hold individual notes while playing others, the phrasing. Everything. And you have to relearn it with every song to fit its particular needs.
Right now, I'm learning Deux Arabesque (Debussy) and looked it up on youtube to listen to it and get the sound in my head. I ran across this video that more literally portrays the idea of color, sound, and shape. It shows the pitch with how high and low it is, the length of the note by the size of the circle, and the color almost shows all the different parts and melodies going on all at the same time. Kind of an interesting idea, and super visual.
For today's challenge, if you're a musician, try painting something with sound. If you a different kind of artist (anything can be considered an art: painting, photography, wood-working, computer work, even being a mom!) Try using your ability in a different way.

Simple Pleasures
Today's Challenge:
Enjoy the simple pleasures.
Have I mentioned this one already? If I have, do it again. It's good for you.
Tonight it really rained for the first time since last fall. I love the rain. It makes for some good metaphors and quotes about bad days, but it makes me happy too. Even though it was a little chilly and dark, it's almost therapeutic thing for me. I went outside and just sat on my porch. Just sat, barefoot and without a blanket, all curled up on the doorstep, and just listened.
Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is just stop for a minute and listen. Not to music, not to conversations, just sit, listen, and take a deep breath. Life is good.
The challenge. Enjoy just sitting and listening to the rain falling, somebody whistling and walking by, curling up in a blanket. Just enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Enjoy the simple pleasure of doing simple things for other people. Stop at a lemonade like Saturday's post. Empty a dishwasher for mom. Say hi to someone when you pass them. A lot of the time, if not all of the time, we find what we need by helping others with what they need.
So in the end, it's kind of three challenges:
1) Enjoy today's simple pleasures
2) Just stop and listen
3) Do the simple and helpful things for others.

Give a Little Love
Found another great video. Even if your simple act of kindess doesn't pay it forward, at least that one person will have that much of a better day.
Find joy in the simple everyday things. Find joy in doing the simple everyday things for others.

Thessalonians
For today's spiritual thought, I wanted to share some scriptures I came across in Thessalonians. They may not mean anything to you, but as I had two missionary farewells today (one for my cousin, and one for my sister's best friend that is practically a brother), these scriptures meant something to me today.
Thessalonians 4:9
But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
T. 5:5
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
T. 5:17-25
Are awesome, but I don't want to copy them all in here when you can go find them yourself! If you don't have a King James version of the bible, go to http://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/1-thes?lang=eng
Even better, look/read around for a bit. Why? Because if you want to talk to God, you get on your knees. If you want God to talk to you, you open your scriptures!
I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. Night all.
