K is for Keep Going!

Dang! That was the first day I missed this month, and I think the third time since I started this puppy. Oh well, I write the post anyway. My apologies. Today is about just keeping swimming.

10 Steps to Keep Going:

  1. Pace yourself.
Gauge your speed. If you can, try a little more. If it’s good, but not overwhelming all the time, just keep chuggin'. If you’re in over your head, take the guts to back down a little. Go your own speed, not the speed of other's expectations.
  1. De-clutter
I just went through my closet and got rid of all of two trash bags full of clothes that have been sitting there for two years and never worn. Now it's funner to get dressed because I like all my clothes. Silly? Maybe. Does it help? Yes. Clean those places that need to be cleaned up, and start fresh. Clean up your life literally or figuratively.
  1. Take a Bath
For my birthday, I got a towel that might as well be a blanket, a “yoga relaxation” CD, comfiest pajamas ever, and some bubble bath. On those days when you’re feeling in a little over your head, take a bubble bath, and maybe buy a chocolate bar.
  1. Pick a Theme Song
Music is for everyone whether you believe it or not. Pick that one song that just helps you put your feet back on the ground. There’s lots of different ways to find this song, but you’ll know what’s for you. I don’t necessarily go looking for it, I just hear it on those bad days, and now it's "today's song". It doesn't always need to be the same song.
  1. Find a friend
Find that one person that you can tell everything, and they get it. They support you, and will help you with anything they can. Your best friend, a man-friend, your mom, sister, brother, imaginary friend, whatever works.
  1. Start a journal
VENT! Yay for writing. Journaling is the best way for me to calm myself down when I have a lot of emotion running through my head. (Yes head, because emotions are a mental game. It takes some of number 7, and control, but it really is an emotinoal game.) It’s also fun to go back and see where you’ve come from, and take your own advice with the mistakes you made in the past.
  1. Practice
If things just aren’t working, keep working at it anyway. Sometimes it just takes a little bit more experience.
  1. Study Up
Find people that might have the same difficulty as you, and see how they handle it. You’re not the only one that’s ever felt like that, no matter how you feel. Take othes advice, and learn how others handle it.
  1. Reflect
This goes along with number six. But if you aren’t the writing kind of person, this might work better. Sometimes, I just had to sit and to utterly, absolutely, nothing. Think, say, listen, do nothing. I don’t know if I can force myself to do it, but there are just those days when I don’t want to do a thing, so I just sit. Don’t let this be an excuse to procrastinate. Sometimes it’s better to just suck it up and getter done than sit and stress about it. But sometimes it’s good to just sit and think, and realize how far you’ve come, and how far you can keep going.
  1. Move Forward
Hopefully, if you’ve done 1-10, you’ve found something that will help you realize it’s going to work out. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.
